Cork – a natural raw material with an unbeatable ecological balance!
Cork is a natural and renewable raw material with many positive properties. The cork oak tree lives for around 200 years and can be peeled around 16 times during its lifetime using a traditional method – all without damaging the tree. The first peeling takes place after 25 years and then every nine years. Thus, cork oak trees have provided a vital source of livelihood for the people of Portugal for generations. The continuously regrowing bark is then used to make cork leather, bottle corks, flooring, and – as in our case – sandals.
Cork oak forests worldwide absorb around 14.5 million tons of carbon dioxide annually. Around 30% of the trees are located in Portugal. This area alone is sufficient to absorb the annual CO2 emissions of 1.6 million cars.
At myVALE, we deliberately use this natural raw material for our 2Strap. Its extreme lightness, shock-absorbing properties, and dimensional stability are particularly well suited for the production of our custom footbeds.
