Cork - a natural raw material with an unbeatable ecological balance!
Cork is a natural and renewable raw material with many positive properties. The cork oak is around 200 years old and can be peeled around 16 times over the course of its life using a traditional process - without damaging the tree. The first peeling takes place after 25 years and then every 9 years. Cork oaks have therefore provided people in Portugal with a central source of livelihood for generations. The bark, which grows again and again, is then used to make cork leather, bottle corks, floor coverings and also - as in our case - for sandals.
Cork oak forests worldwide bind around 14.5 million tons of carbon dioxide every year. Around 30% of the trees are in Portugal. These areas alone are enough to absorb the annual CO2 emissions of 1.6 million cars.
We at myVALE consciously use this natural raw material for our 2Strap. Its extreme lightness, shock-absorbing properties and dimensional stability are particularly suitable for the production of our individual footbeds.
