All of our products are manufactured from high-quality materials. Each material has its own individual properties, tailored to design and function.
Footbed Covers
The footbed cover is an additional layer installed during the manufacturing process according to the customer's wishes. Generally, it gives the sandal more stability, can take on moisture-regulating and breathable functions, and is last but not least an important design component.
Suede Leather
Highly durable genuine leather, open-pored and thus breathable, high wearing comfort, good moisture transport. Over time, the slightly fibrous structure becomes smoother due to the load of the feet and the contours of the soles of the feet become visible on the material. Due to its open structure, slight discoloration may occur depending on the material.
Cleaning recommendation:
For regular cleaning, we recommend brushing with a coarse-bristled, grease-free shoe brush. For heavier soiling, the material can also be rubbed with curd soap and water and rinsed with clear water.
Alcantara
High wearing comfort, durable synthetic fiber, anti-static, easy to clean, warming, breathable, and allergy-friendly. Over time, the slightly fibrous structure becomes smoother due to the load of the feet and the contours of the soles of the feet become visible on the material. Due to its open structure, it absorbs moisture well. Due to the material, slight discoloration may occur.
Cleaning recommendation:
For regular cleaning, we recommend brushing with a coarse-bristled, grease-free shoe brush. For heavier soiling, the material can also be rubbed with curd soap and water and rinsed with clear water.
Microfiber
Very durable synthetic fiber with an antibacterial effect.
Visually, it bears a great resemblance to nappa leather. Available in various colors.
For use in wet areas, UV-resistant and skin-friendly.
Cleaning recommendation:
For light soiling, treatment with a damp cloth is sufficient. For more stubborn soiling, a mild soap (curd soap) can also be used.
Nappa Leather
Elegant, graceful smooth leather, breathable, moisture-regulating, available in various colors. Depending on the article, the grain/surface structure may be more or less intense. The surface is color-fixed by the tannery. However, during intensive contact with moisture, the material may discolor under load. Nappa leather is not suitable for regular use in wet areas.
Cleaning recommendation:
Nappa leather should be wiped down from time to time with a slightly damp cloth without excessive pressure or friction. After cleaning, the material should be completely dry before renewed use in order not to impair the function of the color fixation.
Our Strap and Shaft Materials
Even more diverse than the selection of footbed covers is the range of materials we use for the production of our straps and shafts. Ranging from nappa leather, nubuck leather, microfiber to nylon, denim, various design leathers to salmon leather, kangaroo leather, lamb leather, and patent leather. Whether leather lover or vegan, for wet areas or long tours across the country - we offer the right material for every application.
Nappa Leather (Cowhide)
This leather can be found in many of our monochrome leather models. Straps or shafts made of nappa leather are characterized by their discreetly grained surface, their durability, and robustness. If the lining or the toe post of the strap is also made of cowhide, the breaking-in phase until the leather has adapted and become softer may be slightly longer than with lamb leather or microfiber.
Cleaning recommendation:
Nappa leather should be wiped down from time to time with a slightly damp cloth without excessive pressure or friction. After cleaning, the material should be completely dry before renewed use in order not to impair the function of the color fixation. In the case of intensive contact with moisture under load, there is the possibility of discoloration.
Patent Leather
Patent leather can be wiped down from time to time with a slightly damp, soft cloth. The use of aggressive cleaning agents and heavy friction should be avoided to prevent damage to the shine and the surface of the material.
Kangaroo Leather
Cleaning recommendation:
Kangaroo nappa leather should be wiped down from time to time with a slightly damp cloth without excessive pressure or friction. After cleaning, the material should be completely dry before renewed use in order not to impair the function of the color fixation.
Nylon
Nylon webbing straps can be cleaned very well with water and a little soap. Depending on the degree of soiling, a cloth or even your fingers can be used for assistance.
Salmon Leather
Cleaning recommendation:
The surface of our salmon leather straps is provided with a special coating. For gentle cleaning, we recommend a damp cloth and, for more stubborn dirt, a little curd soap.
Walkfilz (Milled Felt)
Cleaning recommendation:
Superficial dirt can usually be tapped out dry. For more stubborn dirt, careful brushing with a grease-free and coarse-bristled shoe brush is recommended. Treatment with mild cleaning agents such as curd soap or similar is also possible to remove eventual odors; however, this may lead to color changes and changes in the surface structure.
Suede Leather
By stroking your hand over it, the direction of the fibers changes, which creates a visible stroke. This "writing effect" defines the character of the material. Due to its open structure, slight discoloration may occur depending on the material.
To prevent light stains from rain or splashing water on the material, the suede leather should be treated with waterproofing spray before wearing.
Cleaning recommendation:
Generally, it is recommended to treat the material with a waterproofing spray. Light, superficial dirt can usually be tapped out. If necessary, a coarse-bristled, grease-free shoe brush can be used to brush out deeper-seated dirt particles. Excessive friction and strong pressure can lead to changes in color and surface structure.
Lamb Leather
Cleaning recommendation:
Just like nappa leather, lamb nappa leather can be cleaned with a damp cloth. For stubborn dirt, curd soap can also be used. After cleaning, the leather must be completely dry again before the sandals are worn.

Patent Leather
Elegant shine and bold colors. Patent leather has its very own style and can be wonderfully processed into straps for our custom-made Duckbill sandals as well as other sandal variants. The lacquering on the leather makes the material stable and dimensionally consistent.
Cleaning recommendation:
Patent leather can be wiped down from time to time with a slightly damp, soft cloth. The use of aggressive cleaning agents and heavy friction should be avoided to prevent damage to the shine and the surface of the material.
Kangaroo Leather
Kangaroo nappa leather, used in some of our Exclusive models or via the myVALE configurator, is extremely thin yet very durable. The grain (surface structure) is finer than that of cowhide nappa leather. We source our kangaroo leather directly from Australia. The surface of the material has been color-fixed by the tannery. However, in the event of intensive contact with moisture, the leather may bleed under load. Kangaroo leather is not suitable for regular use in wet areas.
Cleaning recommendation:
Kangaroo nappa leather should be wiped down from time to time with a slightly damp cloth without excessive pressure or friction. After cleaning, the material should be completely dry before renewed use in order not to impair the function of the color fixation.
Nylon
Durable nylon webbing is used in our entry-level models. They are lightweight, adapt to the shape of the foot, and give the models a sporty touch. The material is water-resistant and therefore also suitable for use in wet areas. Due to the nature of the material, webbing straps are less dimensionally stable than models made of leather or microfiber. For this reason, depending on personal dexterity, you may need to use your hands for assistance when putting them on.
Nylon webbing straps can be cleaned very well with water and a little soap. Depending on the degree of soiling, a cloth or even your fingers can be used for assistance.
Salmon Leather
Natural, sustainable, unique in its grain, and Made in Germany. Our salmon leather comes from ecologically kept animals raised for consumption. Thanks to the certified process and 100% chrome-free tanning, the pigmentation and characteristic structure of the skin are preserved.
Cleaning recommendation:
The surface of our salmon leather straps is provided with a special coating. For gentle cleaning, we recommend a damp cloth and, for more stubborn dirt, a little curd soap.
Milled Felt
Natural, supple, and handmade from South Tyrol. The shafts for our Wombats consist of 6mm thick milled felt and are individually pulled over the lasts in loving manual work. The felt comes from regionally kept sheep and is processed into felt sheets by hand. The Zacher family in South Tyrol has been producing Haunold® milled felt from pure new sheep's wool for generations according to age-old traditions.
Suede leather, also known as velour leather, is a type of leather with a roughened, velvety surface. It is often made from the underside of animal hides and is known for its soft feel and breathability. In contrast to smooth leather, suede has a roughened surface created by sanding. With good care, suede is durable and long-lasting.
Extremly soft, breathable, and natural. Our lamb leather is color-fixed by the tannery. However, in the event of intensive contact with moisture, the material may bleed under load. Lamb nappa leather is not suitable for regular use in wet areas.
Cleaning recommendation:
Just like nappa leather, lamb nappa leather can be cleaned with a damp cloth. For stubborn dirt, curd soap can also be used. After cleaning, the leather must be completely dry again before the sandals are worn.
Footbed Materials
EVA
EVA (ethylene-vinyl acetate) is a polymer that is foamed into sheets at a specific density and serves as the material for manufacturing our myVALE footbeds and midsoles. The material is non-toxic, skin-friendly, colorfast, and highly resistant to UV radiation.
The high resilience ensures that the material does not "bottom out" and the orthopedic support/function is maintained as long as possible. EVA should not be exposed to temperatures >50°C to avoid shrinkage of the material. With regular contact with chlorine, there is a possibility that the surface structure and color may change and the material may begin to smell.
Cleaning recommendation:
EVA is particularly easy to clean with clear water and a small sponge. For heavier soiling, a little curd soap can also be added.
Cork
Breathable, cushioning, elastic, water-repellent, and very durable. Cork is a material with many positive properties. As a renewable raw material, it has a long tradition in shoe manufacturing and is also fashionable. We use cork for the construction of our 2Strap sandals.
Cleaning recommendations:
Dirt can be easily removed with a sponge and a little water. For stubborn dirt, a little curd soap or other mild cleaning agents should be used.
